Hello, Can Anyone Hear Me?!

When I got up this morning I was startled to find I hadn't already replied to the last lot of comments left on my last post. I was a bit tired when I got home last evening though, so it wasn't beyond the bounds of possibility that I became distracted and forgot to do so. No harm done. As I sipped my hot water (don't ask) I made my replies before dotting off to visit those new posts on my sidebar. When I got back a little later the reply comment I had left was not there. Odd, I thought, perhaps I did something wrong. I left another comment saying my last one had disappeared then noticed Scarlet had posted that her comments were vanishing, so I followed her link to the forum where she has started a thread about this problem. When I came back here that last comment I made had also gone. I went over to Titus where I had left a comment this morning and found it was now not there either. Who else have I visited this morning? I will have to check, and will have to remember to tick the email comments box in every blog I visit.

Has Blogger's Spam Bot come over all Hal?

On another note: it's my graduation tomorrow so I've been getting haircuts, filing my nails, and laundering all my black clothes: the dress code is either black or white – or a combination of the two – and I thought a white summer dress, of which there are many in the sales, would be a bit too Mary Pickford. I'm torn between my elegant French widow's pleat front skirt and my flippy 1920s (ish) one with bugle beads along the hem. Do you think bugle beads are a bit sparkly for day?

Update: I've asked Blogger for help here.

Hmm... Your comment still seems to be on my blog. For leni and MJ it was 24hrs before their comments disappeared, right?
That said, blogger sometimes does the thing where comments don't show up for a while though they are counted, or the aren't counted but they do show up... Give it a day and check to see if your comments have come back. Blogger isn't the most stable blog platform out there.

In your own words, you are hesitating between something "elegant" and something "flippy"... I'm not entirely sure what flippy describes, but somehow, I doubt that it's better than elegant. ; j

Congrats on the graduation. You will look beautiful no matter what you wear, but I love the sound of the French widow's pleat.

I do not understand this missing comment business. No good.

go for the bugle beads, sugar! xoxoxox (and congratulations!)

I put up a comment but it hasn't shown up yet... Hmm. Test.

i left info about my comments vanishing. someone named gatsby has started a spreadsheet to document the problem.

Yeah, your blog is bugging. I see in gmail that several people have posted but no comments are counted.

Give it a day. I've had the exact problem (as far as I can tel) and I've also seen this on a friend's blog, it solved itself over time and all the messages showed up.

Hello Eryl - I hope you clicked your email box or you won't know I've been!
Seems like this is widespread.

I did click my email box thank goodness, I need my comments to know I exist!

I've just exported my blog, too, just in case the problem gets worse before it gets better, if it gets better! X

When did I leave that comment on your blog Alesa? I'll come and check...

Thanks, Alesa, I'll come over and post another to see if that stays.

Alesa Warcan said...

Nodnod... It's not just you, several other bloggers I follow are having bugs and glitches.

Alesa Warcan said...

Well your latest comment on blog has vanished.

Eryl Shields said...

For a few moments there my own comments were showing up, to me. But they have vanished again!

same at my place and scarlet's.comments i left at ub's have disappeared. i've posted all as it's happened, on my blog. xoxo

I found a comment on my blog post from a regular visitor in my email, but it's not on the actual blog. If she'd deleted it, it would have shown on the blog that it was removed but that something had been there.

Perhaps it's time to do another back up or get round to creating an emergency wordpress site...

Eryl Shields said...

I have sort of started to set up an emergency wordpress blog and just backed up too. Blogger does seem to have a big problem with that spam-bot!

wow are they back now?

Do you think we might have a ghostly presence in the system?

Eryl, I hope you can read this comment. I've left comments at Scarlet's, Savannah's and other friends blogs and they didn't appear.

Open ID was blocked, and so was Name/URL (I couldnt even comment anonymously).

It looks like a massive technical failure.

I hope they can fix it soon. I hate Blogger.

Leni.

Oh great I can read my anonymous comment now.

Trying with Open ID.

Great. Third test: Name/URL.

Leni ~ can read all three of them. What a fandango it's been today and it's not entirely sorted as far as I can see. I wonder if Blogger has just become too big to be manageable.

I have word press waiting in the wings but don't suppose it is immune to problems.

I'm glad that things are calming down and slowly going back to their normal status.

I don't think WP is perfect either, but I've read that Blogger has 50 million blogs to manage -not all of them active-.

Maybe this is too much and way above their chances to give a good service to their users. Google also wants to create its own social network (kinda Facebook). Maybe they're growing too fast and can't cope with so much growth.

I've been blogging for 3 years now and I've never seen anything like this going on before.

On another note, I hope you enjoy a nice graduation day. Black is very elegant. You'll look fabulous!

savannah said...

so not that we settled the blogger issue (she said with her fingers crossed) what ARE you wearing tomorrow? xoxox

Eryl Shields said...

Leni ~ bigger isn't always better, often it is much worse, but everyone seems to want to grow all the time!

Thank you, too, if I do look fabulous I'll post pictures, if not I'll describe!

Savannah ~ I think I'll take your advice and go for the bugle beads, something has to be done to brighten things up a bit! As I said to Leni, above, I'll post pictures if I get any good ones (Stevie will be chief photographer and he isn't known for getting my best angle!).

The comments are still slightly odd, aren't they?

Titus said...

Loud and clear. It is all very odd though...

Leni Qinan said...

LOL, I know there will be pics. I can't wait to see them! Enjoy!

I'm going to draw a veil over yesterday and this morning hasn't been great what with finding me memory stick in my Ug slipper.
Honey I so wish I could be there to see you reap the reward of all your diligence. I'll be with you in spirit and toast you when the sun is over the yard arm.xoxo

Hi Eryl,
I hope you had a lovely day today at your well deserved graduation. I can't believe a year has gone in since ours. We're in a unique club of just 5 GU Dumfries MLitters! Should we celebrate that together?! Hope the weather stayed sunny for the procession and bun fight on the lawn. x

Titus ~ Heidegger wrote some very interesting stuff on how technology is only any good for us when it breaks, for then we have to stop and think. I try and force myself to muse on this when things go wrong with my computer or whatever, but this just drove me bonkers!

Leni ~ pics coming up!

Pat ~ I felt you with me all day, thank you, XXX

Wigeon ~ the weather was fabulous! Yes, we should have a yearly get together in a lovely restaurant.
